* [[Johnny Carson]]'s "Carnac the Magnificent" routine on ''[[The Tonight Show]]'' had him play a character like this. The routine worked like this: Carson would enter dressed as Carnac, wearing a ''very'' loud costume that included a large feathered turban and a cape, to Indian music (usually stumbling as he did). Ed McMahon would produce a set of envelopes that he claimed were sealed. "Carnac" would hold each one to his head, say what he believed was the answer to the question written within, then open it, and read the question. Of course, revealing the question was always the punch line to a joke. One example:
