Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

These things about Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.

  • Broken Base: A few weeks after the Grand Finale episode, Bandai was forced thanks to a misprint of a magazine to admit that Suletta and Miorine weren't really a gay couple, or at least not married. This caused a huge crack in the West thanks to most fans of the series on the region being overly focused on the pairing over all other aspects of the show, and those who suspected all along that the relationship was never meant to be seen as homossexual. Wild conspiracies sprouted immediately that Japanese executives were against it or pressure of chinese censorship, with the less far-fetched ones was that in a conservative country like Japan this would never be allowed, despite shows with homossexual couples being fairly common on the romance genre on the archipelago.
  • Fan Hater: A lot of the people into Gundam ended up becoming genuinely sick of the Suletta x Miorine shippers, mostly because of their sheer aggression in pushing the ship everywhere; it only got worse as some of the shippers started calling anti-shippers "homophobes" despite shipping having next to nothing with real life homosexuality or the LGBT rights movement. On 4chan's /m/ board, the continuous Sulemio spamming actively broke the long-held friendship between mecha and yuri fans, as the mecha fans constantly pointed out that the series' quality was being ruined by overt Pandering to The Base (through the school slice-of-life scenes which added next to nothing to both the plot and character development) instead of enhancing it while the yuri fandom doubled down on the ship. By the ending and the abovementioned "open to interpretation" incident, the fanbase became such a dumpster fire that it became common advice to avoid discussing the series altogether, a status that has only previously applied to Evangelion.
