My Cage/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Critical Research Failure: Readers were irate when Norm was depicted with a belly button in a November 2009 strip. Claiming that he wouldn't have one since he was a platypus who was hatched from an egg. No one seemed too upset about the large chested fox woman standing right behind him though.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Maureen's daughter Lily. Ed himself once said that she was their most popular secondary character and has joked about making a spinoff starring her based on sheer popularity.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Ashley, Norm's personal tormentor, showing him some sympathy after he broke up with Bridget. Seen here.
    • Then when Norm and Bridget get back together.
    • After three years of angsting over his life, Norm finally realizes his purpose.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Norm tries to get boys interested into girl's toys long before it actually happened.
  • Needs More Love: It may try to lay its image of "a strip for cynical twentysomethings" a little bit much on occasion but it is something fresh for a newspaper strip, spoofs a few tropes here and makes a real effort at being both clever and funny.
  • Too Good to Last: The strip ended its initial syndication on October 31, 2010. The author is looking into possibly continuing the series on the web and securing a contract with gocomics to rerun the strip after the rights revert back to him. Until then, the comic's blog is currently running a new strip from the three year archive every day with author's commentary.
