(Laios tells her to do this because he knows he cannot prevent her from turning to stone, and needs her to sit in a position where she is less likely to fall over and break, something that would make it impossible to restore her.) Unfortunately, Marcille is very upset when she is told this, and angrily lashes out at him - causing her to turn to stone in a far more awkward and dangerous position.
