• At the climax of the film, when the loyal and courageous mutt of the title has saved his adopted family from danger over and over again, the older son Travis is forced to shoot Yeller after the dog contracts rabies while protecting the family from a rabid wolf. There's a reason this movie is on the Official List of Times Men Can Cry.
