He's identified as an "ounce", which is in modern times generally associated with the snow leopard (''uncia uncia''), but the author has clarified that she means the older definition of that word, which applied to any spotted wild cat, and he's actually supposed to look like a serval. Jorin is blind from birth, but manages to see through the mind-link, borrowing his mistress' vision.
