  • Unfortunate Implications: Both in it's time and nowadays the play received criticisms by several black intellectuals, including W.E.B. Dubois, for it's relatively stereotypical depiction of African American culture, especially in their way of speaking. Though, for white man's perception of poor African American culture in the 1930's, it likely could have been a lot worse.
