Project X/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Bittersweet Ending: Thomas becomes the most popular kid in school, but his home is destroyed, his parents have had to use his college fund to pay for the damage, and he's been indicted on several charges.
  • Do Not Try This At Home: Apparently needed it, because several copycat partiers adopted the Family-Unfriendly Aesop and threw ragers of their own, including over $100,000 in damages and even a murder.
  • Family-Unfriendly Aesop: Getting drunk, partying all night long and destroying your house makes you cool.
  • Fun Personified: Costa, even as the party is on its way to chaos, he still has focus of having fun and keeping the party going. Also at the end of the movie, when he sees Thomas' minivan, his first comment is on how the car looks cooler.
  • The Scrappy: Costa is an utterly despicable human being.
  • Unfortunate Implications: Apart from Kirby, most of the girls in the film are treated as objects by the main characters. The film never once calls them out on it, and indeed the ending seems to suggest that the experience was a good thing for them.
