- Acceptable Targets: one of the characters ends up going to prom with his short, homely, overweight friend, and this is supposed to be played for laughs.
- She's his stepsister, and their date is actually played pretty sweetly.
- Heartbroken Badbutt: Jesse, after Nova's father orders him not to take her to prom. Especially shown when he picks a fight with three dudes who caused problems for his mom's restaurant.
