Quirky Korean Drama about a megastar and an aspiring writer living together and getting into a love octohedron.
While fairly standard as a Korean Drama it gets extra points for the hilariously cruel beginning and the excellent bantering of the two leads who find themselves in an extra juicy situation
Jee-Eun is an aspiring writer mostly writing Internet lovestories, but sure to make it soon. Unfortunately she suffers from complete inexperience in life. And from having two best friends. These two best friends set her up with a first class one-way ticket to Shanghai, ostensibly because she won a prize with the bank she has her account at. In truth both of her friends sell her house and belongings before her plane even left the country.
The increasingly frantic Jee-Eun, stranded in Shanghai without Chinese or English skills, no room booked and no ticket back, gets to know Korean megastar Young-Jae and his old friend Min-Hyuk and manages to convince the former with no lies at all that she is somehow connected to the latter.
This blows up in her face back in Korea when Young-Jae wants to use her in a plot to separate Min-Hyuk from the affections of their childhood friend Hye-Won, who pining for Min-Hyuk and only using Young-Jae. Then of course the weirdness starts: Young-Jae turns out to be the person who bought Jee-Euns house and now she should leave. Not that she wants to though: the hosue was built by her father and she has no other place to go. So he offers her to be his maid, especially as she still has to pay him back the money he borrowed her. Hilarity...
No, wait...
Then Young-Jae gets in a pickle with a blown proposal to Hye-Won (who doesn't even realize he was proposing) and end up proposing Jee-Eun instead. Who agrees on a contractual marriage (no intimacy, no longer than 6 months, no one should be told, she gets the house in the end). And Min-Hyuk blows off Hye-Won because he likes Jee-Eun better and Jee-Euns friends reappear to mooch of her a bit more as she now is married to a megastar.
Now hilarity ensues... and drama. Copious amounts of drama...
The serial was obviously very successful abroad, it even spawned a Philippine remake in 2009.
