One of the cool things about Ren'Py is how easy it is to get started. The engine ships with a short tutorial. The scripting is very close to plain English for most visual novels. Thus the barrier to entry is very low: A writer, artist, and musician are all that is needed to ship a competent visual novel with Ren'Py if one of the people is reasonably technically inclined.
