Like most people who move around upright, I have beliefs. I'd like to think I have beliefs that I would die for. The freedom to offend is very near the top.

Mercer has received more than 25 Gemini Awards for his work on television, and was named to Canada's Walk of Fame in 2023.

Rick Mercer provides examples of the following tropes:
  • Deadpan Snarker: He's from the Maritimes; that's "deadpan" there.
  • Walk and Talk: The "streeters", his signature style where he walks while ranting. (Pity the poor cameraman, who had to walk backward and film at the same time, every week!)
