The original versions of daemons from the manga (one of which appeared in the anime in Haruka's flashback) are referred to as "atavists": a regression in [[Evolutionary Levels]]. Messing with the personal [[MacGuffin]] of any character—soul mirror/star seed/whatever—seems to inflict or dispel the effect rather easily. This also explains why [[Earth Is the Center of the Universe]]; Chaos and its children are trying to reclaim their own.
