Recycled Script: Most of the stories are based on the original run of the comic strip, and are rotated through every few years, only slightly updated with current clothing and technology. New stories based on current events are a rare treat.
Values Dissonance / Fair for Its Day: Much of Sazae's home life seems quaint by modern standards, and even in Japan, the series is enjoyed primarily as nostalgia for the Showa-era boom times. This is in contrast to the comic's postwar origins and Sazae's (for the time and place) extremely liberated, feminist views.
