Over time, the "[[Mary Sue Hunter|kill all]] [[Mary Sue|Mary Sues]]s" aspects have softened, to the point where some players will attempt to defend the canon characters, and some may be left alive at the end of the game. A game has even been run for ''[[The Lord of the Rings]]'' (which the players generally hold in high esteem).
