And he was having a very hard time doing so because he was [[Manly Tears|moved to tears]] by the audience: hundreds and hundreds of fans, many bringing along their children, not so much cheering as hitting octaves not heard since 1990, and ''wearing their lovingly preserved classic concert shirts, hats, giant buttons, and so on''.
