It shows a fully-human German soldier being killed and converted into one of the clockwork zombies that the girls mow down by the hundred. It's made abundantly clear that at least part of the soldier's humanity remains even after his conversion, meaning that the Wiseman's "Don't worry, they're not human" speech wasn't entirely true.
