An award-winning YA novel by A. S. King. Pirate Emer was killed together with her lover, and was cursed to 100 lives as dogs before reincarnated 300 years later in 1972 as Saffron, retaining all her memories in the whole process. It has elements of history, adventure, romance and (despite the cute cover) plenty of violence.
Provides examples of:
- Berserk Button: Emer really, really hates slavers, due to her own experience.
- Break the Cutie: Emer's story.
- Eye Scream
- Reincarnation Romance: Emer/Saffron and her main love interest.
- So Beautiful It's a Curse: one cause for Emer's ordeal.
