Essentially in Yzma's almost [["I Want" Song]], she states because she has lost her beauty with age, she barely goes out in the sun and prefers the light of the moon. She does know the moon doesn't actually make any light at all and the light we see from the Moon is really sunlight that is reflected from the Moon's surface, right? And if she did snuff out the sun, the moon wouldn't be seen at all? It's probably a good thing the movie changed her motives.
