  • Villain Decay: Marduke. He starts off as a genuinely creepy murderer with half a face, and becomes a sort of mutated pig.
  • Wangst: It's mentioned in the first book that Rochelle's past isn't pleasant, but that she still has a chance to do good. Then she starts to narrate, and it becomes somewhat more difficult to sympathize.
