- Hilarious in Hindsight / Harsher in Hindsight: Terrifying in Hindsight? Tolkien seems to have acquired the gift of prophecy whilst writing The Notion Club Papers in 1944, given that he gives 1986 as the date of a space programme disaster, a nuclear disaster, and the greatest storm ever to hit England. The last one was a few months out — in Real Life it happened in 1987.
- Tear Jerker: Aegnor/Andreth. Aegnor the Elf loved Andreth the woman, but they didn't marry, since they didn't want Aegnor to live forever as Andreth faded away. In a burst of tragic irony, Aegnor was killed in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, long before Andreth's own end.)
