The Middleman/Funny

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

The entire series is one big Crowning Moment of Funny. Oh, you wanted examples? Here we go:

  • Episode 1, at the climax:

Middleman: The only thing I hate more than mad scientists trying to take over the world is mad scientists trying to take over the world and using the brains of innocent primates in order to do it.
(minutes later)
Wendy: Is it true what you said up there?
Middleman: What?
Wendy: That the only thing you hate more than mad scientists trying to take over the world is mad scientists trying to take over the world and using the brains of innocent primates in order to do it?

(Beat)

Middleman: ...why would I lie about that?

Wendy: I don't know, it just seems like an oddly specific thing to hate.

Middleman: Self-knowledge is the gateway to true happiness, Dubby.

  • Episode 2, when they reach the Underworld (not Hell). It looks like an office building.

Wendy: Huh, I guess when I said those temp jobs were Hell, I was right.
Middleman: Wait, you see an office building?
Wendy: Yeah, what do you see?
Middleman: I see a field...wild, and untamed. Grasses, waving in the wind. Gnarled trees. And over there, a feral rabbit! Look, do you see?
Wendy: Wow, really?
Middleman: No. I see an office building.
Wendy: Oh, he's funny in the Underworld!
