Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Accidental Aesop / Alternate Aesop Interpretation: In the end, Nina ends up with a black man. In theory, the reason for this was supposed to be: "One should be able to date and marry whomever one wishes, regardless of gender or color"- IF intended at all, since it may have simply been a case of race-blind casting (his race is not really mentioned, and he shows up so late that it does not really add to the plot). In practice, what truly came across was "Can't get a white man? Get a black man! A black man will love you much more than a white man ever will!", since all of Nina's previous love interests were white after all.
