- Ho Yay: Madame Lefoux, who first appears in the second book, is fairly obviously attracted to Alexia, who is rather oblivious.
- Moral Event Horizon: Felicity informing Lady Kingair of Lyall's involvement in the Kingair Pack's treason, with the specific intention of ruining Alexia's marriage when Lord Maccon found out.
- Suetiful All Along: Many people, including Alexia herself, consider her plain. However, when you add together all her described traits, you get a very attractive woman. (This is part Values Dissonance, since Victorian English find her Italian heritage unattractive.)
