Basic Trope: An illusion tricks a character into walking off a dangerous edge.
- Straight: Alice is hypnotized to think that there is a bridge over a chasm, and falls while trying to cross it.
- Exaggerated: Bob is hypnotized to think that the Eiffel Tower observation deck is at ground level, and falls while hopping up and down outside the guardrail trying to prove that it is at ground level.
- Justified: Death trap which uses optical illusion
- Inverted: Leap of Faith
- Subverted: The straight example, but Alice's Mind Makes It Real.
- Double Subverted: The subverted example, but Alice was also hypnotized into thinking she was on solid ground even as she falls to her doom.
- Once Alice is half way across, she is woken from her hypnosis and falls when she no longer thinks there's a floor.

- Reconstructed: While Alice and Bob are unable to traverse the maze of solidity along the illusionary floor, their blind friend Charlie leads them across with no problem.
