- Animation Age Ghetto: A major contributor to the commercial failure of the movie. Some of the commercials try to avoid showing any traditional animation at all.
- They themselves were seemingly unsure of who their target age group was. They have cutesy cartoony characters like Gune that are clearly aimed for kids, but they also have visible bloodshed and rather graphic onscreen deaths.
- Author's Saving Throw: See Explosive Decompression in the main page.
- Awesome Music: The whole soundtrack.
- Complete Monster: The Drej. They're genocidical and supermacist aliens driven by an almost insane hate towards human which they intend to exterminate from the universe, in order to be the only dominant species in the galaxy. The Drej Queen is of course the worst one.
- Crazy Awesome: Gune is undeniably loopy, but that apparently helps him a lot in his scientist/navigator duties.
Cale: I'll tell you a secret: This guy's nuts! |
- Creepy Awesome: Preed. He definitely qualifies as 'creepy,' but factor in his one-liners and eventual Magnificent Bastard tendencies, this is what you get.
- Creepy Sexy: Preed again, despite (or maybe because of) the dinosaur-like snout, big nasty teeth, long creepy arms and fingers, utter perversion and penchant for trying to lick things with that big, weird tongue. Being voiced by Nathan Lane doesn't hurt.
- Crowning Music of Awesome: Pick a song. Any song.
- Ensemble Darkhorse: Gune, for all the reasons mentioned above, and because he is the only really Bluthy character in the whole show. Stith is a fan favorite, and oddly, Korso and Preed have gained a following, sometimes bordering on the Leather Pants.
- Nightmare Fuel: Earth getting blown up. The fact that it was in the trailers meant that even kids who didn't see the movie likely saw that scene. This Troper may not be scared of it now, but when she saw that scene as a kid, she was scared of afterimages on the sky for weeks.
- Shocking Swerve: Korso's betrayal.
- Special Effects Failure: Producer/Director Gary Goldman and Don Bluth openly complained about the time-and-budget crunch imposed by Fox at points in the DVD commentary, most notably involving a CG cliff shown near the end of the film that was done in literally the last two weeks of production.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot
- Woobie Species: Humans could be seen as this, as Earth was destroyed by the Drej, making humans galactic drifters.
