Topic on Talk:Qipao

As I post this, the page image is of an anonymous (pretty) model in a red qipao. We inherited the image from the TV Tropes fork -- as far as I can tell, it's still under copyright.

Commons has an entire category of women wearing qipaos, subdivided by fabric colour. Mind you, many of these photos are from the early- to mid-20th century, and styles change over the decades.

Should we switch from a copyright image to a PD or CC image? (I think the answer to that one's a no-brainer: of course we should when we have the option. But we don't actually say that in any of our policies.) If we should, which image do we want to use as a replacement?

I operate on the policy of replacing copyrighted images to PD images; have we not actually got that at least as a tip/guideline in our policies? I would have to look at the images themselves, but the highest quality coloured image is usually a good bet.

You can lay that at my feet, since I wrote that page.

Regarding the replacement of this particular image, I have no objections.

Since everyone who's expressed an opinion has given the same opinion... I've found a few in the collection on Commons that I think would work. Which image would people prefer to see on the page?

Yes, agreed, the last of those.
