I wrote and named the trope back on TVT. I received a copy of the guidelines right from the hand of then-editor-in-chief of ''Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine'' [[w:George H. Scithers|George Scithers]] when he came to Princeton University to run a writer's workshop for the science fiction club Infinity, Ltd. (now sadly defunct), of which I was a member. This was about forty years ago. I no longer have a copy -- at least the last time I went digging through the keepsakes of my college years it was not there to be found. But "tomato surprise" stuck with me for -- well, it was just over twenty yeas when I added it to TVT.
