Topic on Talk:Great Wall

What is this based on @Looney Toons ? I searched specifically for figures referencing "yards" and the only result referring to total wall being built in hundreds of yards was a CNN article that is not about the total length of wall (it's a few hundred yards out of a two mile section).

BBC from late 2020 claims 15 miles of totally new protection, plus 350 miles replacing or reinforcing existing. ABC doesn't dispute a hundred miles were built by the start of 2020. The New Yorker also states "three hundred and fifty miles" were constructed in 2020. None of these could remotely be called pro-Trump sources, yet they don't dispute the numbers were in the hundreds of miles.

I was referencing an article I cannot find at this time which described a few hundred-yard stretch of "demonstration" wall with a half-dozen or so different styles of metal wall, erected as a proof of concept. At the time it was written, it was already starting to collapse, being anchored poorly (cheap concrete, IIRC) and rusting badly. One of the photos in the article you link rings a bell -- it looks like what I remember of one part of the demo wall. What I do remember clearly is that demo wall was touted as the only construction that matched Trump's plans for a "big beautiful wall"; and I would argue that extending and repairing existing fencing doesn't count as "building a wall".

However I will acknowledge that your sources are better than my poor recollection of the article, and yield to you.
