• The Black Spot is in-universe nightmare fuel for any pirate, as it's shorthand for "your life is forfeit, and we won't stop hunting you till you die".
• Jim and the reader get an entire chapter of this after Silver confirms he was the quartermaster of Flint's crew, and the rest of the chapter is Silver and the others bloody plans for everyone who isn't a scumbag aboard.
• Up until Silver kills Tom, he was a pretty likable guy, even though we knew he was a pirate, but he becomes terrifying when breaks Tom's back with a well placed toss of his own leg crutch, then hops over one-legged to Tom and brutally stabs him to death.
