People who write or have written books, though not necessarily for a living. Remember, [[There Is No Such Thing As Notability]].

The preponderance of recent authors probably reflects the fact that the less memorable authors of the past don't have so many fans nowadays -- or at least not enough of the [[Most Tropers Are Young Nerds|Young and Nerdy]] persuasion. The nearly exclusive emphasis on authors of fiction reflects the basic purpose of the wiki.

== Before A.D. 500 (Classical) ==

Regrettably, many of the oldest classics such as ''[[The Epic of Gilgamesh (Literature)|The Epic of Gilgamesh]]'' and ''[[The Bible (Literature)|The Bible]]'' (Well, sections of the Bible, especially the Old Testament) are essentially anonymous works.
