- Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: Some of the drivers are nominated by their verbally abusive spouses. The hosts will point out to them how much of a detriment they are to their driving spouses, and they actually turn around their own behaviors. Sometimes, the epiphany is a Tear Jerker: one verbally abusive spouse (considered the worst they'd had on the show) went on a drive with the host with his own verbal abuse being played back at him during the drive. The man was absolutely crushed to realize how bad he was and made a conscious effort to change. His wife's driving performance (to say nothing of their relationship) improved drastically.
- High Octane Nightmare Fuel: This show only accepts legally valid drivers. In other words, all contestants have valid driving licenses and are insured. How these people even managed to get their license is remarkable.
- The "insured" part became important during season 6--Scott's unwillingness to learn caused his roommate and nominator Danny (who paid for Scott's insurance) to become fed up, verbally rip Scott a new one, and cancel the policy.
- In the third episode of Season 7, it was pointed out that all of the contestants had confessed to having driven distracted. So, they set up their "easiest" course ever ... made harder by intentionally making the contestants drive while subjecting themselves to distractions (such as food, and the classic "texting while driving"). The results were predictable, but got downright scary when Tab almost made the old 1950's car roll over on styrofoam.
- This doubles as a Tear Jerker because when they finished they had to have a conversation with Aaron (who, six years prior, was nearly killed by a distracted driver) - in said conversation they had to look Aaron in the eye and promise to never drive distracted again. Everybody cried.
- Tear Jerker: What happens to the cars... Just... what happens to the cars.
- What an Idiot!: Two contestants in two seperate seasons (same guys under Redemption Rejection) have stated low opinions of police officers, as well as having boasted about very illegal acts (Scott drove under someone else's name while under house arrest). Look at the former occupation of The Big Guy. He still carries a badge. He has an obligation to report such confessions to the police where these things happen. Yes, he will fulfill that obligation. Oh, and yes, the judges will question the intelligence of anyone who boasts about such things on live TV.
- Then-Sergeant Cam Woolley also called Colin from Season Two an idiot, due to his driving.
- At one point, after deliberately failing a challenge and shattering the car's window in the process, Colin bragged about his actions to a friend. By cell phone. Where at least three other contestants heard him very clearly. Sgt. Wooley was not the only one on that show who considered Colin an idiot.
- Many of the contestants have Game Show-grade dim bulb moments when asked to identify road signs. For instance, Dale thought that a sign indicating an information centre (a brown sign with a white question mark) meant that the road to the information centre was shaped like a question mark.
- Angelina from Season 5 is also really bad to the point where she tries a reversing challenge while drinking a coffee without a lid. When she is forced to drop it, she wouldn't shut up about how upset she was. Also, her driving is horrendously bad to the point that her nominee admitted that she tended to crash all the time and Angelina was convinced that she did well on some challenges where she nearly destroyed them. No wonder she 'won'.
