• National Arts Centre Award

Late December:

• Thurber Prize for American Humor

Unknown:

• Arthur C. Clarke Award
• Hugo Award ; John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer / Astounding Award for Best New Writer (awards are presented at the Worldcon for that year)
• Mark Twain Prize for American Humor
• Nebula Award ; Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Awards (award is presented "in the spring")
• Robert A. Heinlein Award (award is presented at the Balticon for that year, but announced earlier)
