Commentary! The Musical/YMMV
- Crowning Music Of Funny: It's called Commentary: the Musical. Honestly, what did you expect?
- Death of the Author: Heart (Broken), all about Joss harking back to the times when authors didn't have to reanimate themselves and explain their work to make some more money off the DV Ds.
- Ear Worm: The refrains from The Rap and Heart (Broken) will be in your head for days. Also Ninja Ropes.
- Ho Yay: At the beginning of "Better Than Neil" Nathan admits to lying awake at night, thinking of NPH. A few lines later he asks what he's wearing.
- Painful Rhyme: In "Ninja Ropes," the titular Flash game is always rhymed as if it were called "Ninja Rope" - with "hope," "dope," etc.
- In "Nobody's Asian in the Movies," the line "groupie in the chorus" is rhymed oddly. At first, it's like this "if there is a part there for us/it's the groupie in the chorus" (for us/chorus). However, later on, you get "if your movie is a bore/just watch the groupie in the chorus", (bore, just/chorus)... "Commentary (Reprise)" lampshades this with the lyrics "The lazy phrasing betrays how well this pays".
- Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped: As funny as it is "Nobody's Asian in the Movies" is commenting on a problem Hollywood (including Joss Whedon himself) still hasn't fixed. Possibly also a sideways acknowledgment/apology for Firefly, a TV series drowning in chinoiserie and yet has no Asians in the main cast, and only one with any lines in the entire series plus the movie Serenity.
- True Art Is Angsty: Parodied, of course.
