Def Leppard/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Awesome Music
  • Broken Base: Just about every Leppard fan loves Pyromania, but other than that they're split between people who prefer what came before it and people who like what came after it.
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: Rick Allen. Not even an amputated arm can stop him.
  • Epic Riff: Many.
  • Face of the Band: Joe Elliott is the face, and Phil Collen is known for appearing with him in most interviews. Rick Allen is recognised for obvious reasons.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: Slang
  • Genius Bonus: One scene of Hysteria: The Def Leppard Story shows Phil and Steve arriving at a video shoot riding a two-seated bicycle. This mirrors an anecdote they tell about renting a two-seater and riding it to a concert sound check.
    • The same scene invokes their nickname "The Terror Twins". Oddly, this more well-known factoid is only mentioned the one time.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: They concentrated their early efforts on breaking into the American market and did well there with Pyromania and "Photograph". They didn't have a proper hit in their home country until "Animal" was released a full decade after they formed and Hysteria became a huge seller. This prompted some less clued in critics to assume they were American "Bon Jovi rip-offs".
  • Protection From Editors: They actually became pretty irritated by this trend during Jim Steinman's brief tenure as producer for Hysteria - they were used to Mutt Lange getting them to do endless takes of a song and then tirelessly edit them into a finished product, whereas Steinman was happy to use takes in which the band hadn't even tuned their guitars because it "sounded honest".
  • Uncanny Valley: The CGI in "Let's Get Rocked" hasn't really aged well.
  • Unfortunate Implications: "Two Steps Behind" sounds more and more like a song about stalking as time passes.
