• After it was noticed that DOOM Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizon were both scheduled for release on March 20, 2020, their respective development teams started encouraging each other and making jokes about crossovers in online venues including Twitter, eventually shaking out into a tongue-in-cheek Shipping of the Doomguy with Isabelle. Fans, amused and encouraged, took it and ran with it, creating artwork, videos and even game mods to allow Isabelle and Doomguy to be together.
  • And then in October 2021, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate finally brought them together in a more-or-less canon setting.
