Forrest Gump/Heartwarming

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • There are too many examples to count, but to this troper, Lieutenant Dan finding peace is among the best.
    • Another one for both Lt. Dan and Forrest before this. After leaving the Dick Cavett show, Forrest to his surprise Lt. Dan shows up. While it's clear that Lt. Dan is still pissed and resentful at him for losing his legs and not dying in the war, Forrest is happy to see him again. Lt. does somewhat reciprocate Forrest's kindness by letting him hang out with him in New York and even stands up for him when one of his Hooker girlfriends calls him stupid. While Dan was mostly being sarcastic about it, he did keep his word of becoming his first mate on the Shrimping boat.
  • "You know it's funny what a young man recollects? 'Cause I don't remember bein' born. I don't recall what I got for my first Christmas and I don't know when I went on my first outdoor picnic. But I do remember the first time I heard the sweetest voice in the wide world."

Young Jenny: You can sit here if ya want.

  • Forrest tells his story to an old woman. He realizes she just missed her bus and tells her. Her response?

Old Woman: (Crying, smiling.) There'll be another one.

  • And when Lt. Dan shows up at Forrest and Jenny's wedding, with "Magic Legs" and a Vietnamese wife of his own.
  • Even though this got him to resign, it was nice of Nixon to personally let Forrest stay at Watergate Hotel.

Nixon: Are you enjoying yourself in our nations capital young man?
 Forrest: Yes sir.
Nixon: Well, where are you staying?
Forrest: It's called the Hotel Abbot.
Nixon: Oh nononono, I know of a much nicer hotel. It's brand new, very modern. I'll have my people take care of it right away.

  • Although telling Kennedy he had to pee is a funny moment, Kennedy was nice enough to let Forrest use the presidential bathroom.
