Gay Moment/Playing With

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Basic Trope: An otherwise straight person remarks or acts upon the sexuality of someone of the same sex.

  • Straight: Bob, who is clearly shown to be straight and in a loving relationship with Alice, remarks on how attractive Charlie looks.
  • Exaggerated: Bob rambles on an on about what a sexy beast Charlie is before finally realizing what he's saying.
  • Justified:
    • Even the Guys Want Him
    • Bob associates the word "handsome" withing being ideal to the person talking, and Bob notices how many girls are interested in Charlie, and inadvertently starts thinking in the terms that Charlie is handsome because of that.
    • Bob and Charlie are long time friends, while Bob normally refrains from speaking his thoughts about Charlie, he does so forgetting that it might sound homosexual to somebody who doesn't know Bob, rather than the fact that they are friends and Bob uses less mental restrictions when thinking about his close friends.
  • Inverted: Bob, who is known to be gay and in a loving relationship with Charlie, remarks on how attractive Alice looks (which could be called a "Straight Moment").
  • Subverted: What Bob said about Charlie was entirely non-sexual and was just taken the wrong way. "What? When I said he had a nice ass, I was talking about his pet donkey!"
  • Double Subverted: Charlie says "But, Bob, I don't have a pet donkey!"
  • Parodied: Bob just can't get Charlie's ass out of his mind.
  • Deconstructed:
  • Reconstructed:
  • Zig Zagged:
  • Averted: Bob makes no comment regarding Charlie that would make him sound gay.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: "Uh, Bob... That sounded kinda gay coming from you."[1]
  • Invoked:
  • Defied: Bob goes "Eh, I don't see what's so great about Charlie." while Alice and other girls drool over how hot he is.
  • Discussed:
  • Conversed:
  • Played For Laughs: Bob keeps getting into the most bizarre piccadillos that make him look like he's gay for Charlie. Attempts to prove otherwise just dig him in deeper.
  • Played For Drama: Bob is ostracized by his family and Alice wants a divorce because they're convinced Bob is gay for Charlie.
  • Plotted A Good Waste:
