Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (novel)/Recap/C02 The Scar

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

So now that Harry is awake, it's time for us to dive into the standard Recap Chapter. As in the previous book, this will consist of Harry laying in bed and thinking about the events of previous installments.

Anyway, Harry's scar hurts and he remembers dreaming the events of the previous chapter, but the details are quickly fading from his mind. Harry is also evidently in on the new conspiracy to refer to Peter Pettigrew only as "Wormtail". This cues Harry to once again think about how he's a wizard and he attends Hogwarts. Harry is worried because the last time his scar hurt, it meant Voldemort was near. But Voldemort couldn't be on Privet Drive, could he? Before Harry can do anything, he suddenly remembers that the Dursleys happen live in this house, so he decides to think for awhile about who they are and how he came to live with them.

Thinking about how he came to be at Hogwarts causes Harry to wonder how his friends would respond if he told any of them about his scar hurting again. He imagines that Hermione would be all shrill and frantic, insisting that he look in a book and tell Dumbledore. Harry then wonders where Dumbledore goes during the holidays and "amused himself for a moment, picturing Dumbledore, with his long silver beard, full length wizard's robes, and pointed hat, stretched out on a beach somewhere, rubbing suntan lotion onto his long crooked nose." After being unable to think of how to tell Dumbledore, Harry considers Ron, who he imagines would be all "I dunno". This prompts Harry to think for awhile about who all the Weasleys are and what Ron had said about going to the Quidditch World Cup with them.

When Harry considers that he needs someone like a parent to talk to about his scar hurting, he realizes that Sirius is the answer he seeks. Harry thinks about how Sirius had been framed, thus spoiling the ending of the previous book and therefore defeating the whole point of not calling Wormtail by his real name. Harry doesn't know where exactly Sirius is, but it seems that it's somewhere tropical and Hedwig will be able to find him in any case. After he's done thinking about who Sirius is, Harry starts composing a letter. Not wanting to make it look like he's too worried, Harry fills the letter with everyday minutiae about Dudley being on diet and so forth. He also decides to mention only his scar hurting and not the dream.

Finally, we end with the scintillating cliffhanger of Harry going downstairs to breakfast. But whatever, another Recap Chapter is out of the way. Phew!
