Inside Job/Heartwarming

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

WARNING! There are unmarked Spoilers ahead. Beware.

General

  • Reagan and Brett's blooming friendship. She goes from being suspicious that he is a spy sent to undermine her to becoming one of his best friends.
  • ROBOTUS's Character Development over the two parts of season one. He goes from a Gone Horribly Right genocidal AI that nearly destroys the world to an empathetic confidante for Reagan, and one could argue her most loyal friend outside of Brett. She even notes how much he's changed in "Appleton".

Season One, Part One

  • "Clone Gunman"
    • Reagan goes from distrusting Brett to making up a special handshake for him.
    • Thanks to Reagan's antics, she realizes that no one has to be fired. She and Brett lie to J.R. that they decided to liquidate the cloning department.
    • ROBOTUS helps Reagan's team, under protest, and they agree to keep it a secret.

Season Two, Part Two

  • "Project Reboot"
    • Myc's reasons for bailing on Reagan: he learns in this timeline that he's pregnant and wants to be a parent. Sadly, he finds out later that the pregnancy was overeating at Del Taco. Reagan sympathizes when she hears.
    • To a lesser extent, Gigi gets the respect and love she has always wanted at the Illuminati. The only downside is that she has to run the Disney channel, but she handles it in stride by doing the logo until Brett saves her.
    • Brett refuses to leave Reagan's side or see what his better timeline is. She has to force the hat off him, because she wants him to have a future if she fails. Fortunately, Brett put a tinfoil hat on his Kazaam poster, read the notes, and realized he had to go back and save Reagan.
    • Reagan prepares for a full-out battle with her father. She has the robot arms, a body loaded with Adderrall, and a lot of anger at him for hijacking reality. Then she sees him crumpled in front of the machine, with hundreds of tally marks on the wall. Rand reveals quietly that he's been trying to create a timeline where Reagan and Tamiko never left him, only to realize that no matter what variable he changed, they always did. He's the variable that can't change, his assholery and self-centered nature. Reagan looks at her unanswered texts from Ron and quietly talks down Rand. She can't forgive him, but she can understand his perspective. Reagan convinces Rand that rather than try to force people to love him, he should accept the reality he's in now, and shut down the machine.
  • "Appleton"
    • Despite his mixed feelings about Ron and knowing that Reagan has been working so hard to get her promotion as CEO of Cognito, Inc., Brett doesn't beg Reagan to stay when she tells him about Ron's offer to move to Appleton and wipe their memories. He tells her to do what makes her happy, casting a glance at the alcohol bottles and Adderall pills piling up in her office.
    • ROBOTUS uploads the multiple timelines into the holodeck so that Reagan can evaluate all the options for staying at Cognito Inc or leaving to start a new life with Ron, and if there is a third option. She notes that it's unlike him; ROBOTUS tearfully says that the VR deck reminds him of her mother, so it makes him emotional. Their date wasn't real, but it made him realize there was more to life than being a genocidal robot.
    • Despite knowing it may cause the end of the universe, Brett refuses to shoot Air Bud, an innocent dog and his childhood hero. He pulls out all the stops to find a way to save Air Bud, complete with setting him free in a field. Brett then slaps Glenn, Myc, and Andre when they try to stop him, asking what kind of workplace allows for this toxic behavior. When Brett finds a loophole using Senator decoy Brett, he considers making Air Bud the new Reagan in the office and mimes him saying, "I love you Brett! Platonically!"
    • Brett comforts Reagan when she comes back to Cognito Inc, greeting him and Air Bud. She says she didn't want to forget her relationship with Ron, but didn't want him to live with the pain of their breakup. Brett nods with complete sympathy.
