Later with Jools Holland/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Colbert Bump: It isn't unusual for a little-known act to appear on Later and absolutely steal the show.
    • KT Tunstall, an unknown who was filling in for an act who canceled, performed "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" accompanied only by her acoustic guitar and loop pedal. The next week, her single was in the UK Top 30, and a career was made.
    • Hip Hop/Soul singer Aloe Blacc was the newcomer on an episode which also featured Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and Elvis Costello. His performance of "I Need A Dollar" gave him some of his first exposure in the UK and likely helped to propel that song and the album that included it into the top ten.
  • About the Hootenanay, which very carefully maintains it is being broadcast live on New Year's Eve, right down to kilted bagpipers from a Scottish regiment playing the new year in. Jools interviewed a guest, a notorious drunk (still alive and capable of suing - sorry) , who let slip it was really a recording done in September, but any excuse for a drink, eh? Strangely enough this was not edited out of the broadcast show...
    • They did a really charming nod to this a couple of years ago when Jools had John Simm and David Tennant as guests. The intro to the Hootenanny had Jools borrow the TARDIS and pop forward to December 31st.....
