* Broken Base: Many fans were driven away from the game when it was revealed that there would be no stealth aspect and that Metal Gear Solid 4s ending and Raiden's former character traits were basically thrown out the window.

** Which is odd, considering that while it's no longer the main focus the stealth aspect is still there and all the trailers so far have been about Raiden doing badass things, so as far as we know he's still the same guy that he was in Metal Gear Solid 4.

* Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch: Predictably, a lot of people are bashing the game before it's even been released.

* Complete Monster: The only really horrible monster in the game is NOT the final boss, who, while tapdancing on the Moral Event Horizon (and knowing it), is actually a Well-Intentioned Extremist of a very dark shade of gray. The real unarguable monster would be Sundowner, who gleefully participates in war crimes because he gets off on killing people for profit and for fun.
* Crazy Awesome: Highlights from the new trailer include throwing a Metal Gear Ray into the air and dicing it to pieces, wall-running along a tunnel to keep pace with a train, and slicing an enemy soldier into dozens of little meat chunk. And it was amazing.

Subverted in the game itself, as that's basically just another day's work for you, and the truly crazy stuff is even MORE impressive.
* Genius Bonus: The word revengeance actually exists in older English dictionaries. It's a rather redundant word when revenge and vengeance exists though, hence why English-speakers don't tend to use the word today.

** Also, anyone in the English-speaking audience who is familiar with the term (eg, those whom the "M" rating caters for) will probably react with some disgust due to it pretty much being synonymous with the Ku Klux Klan, who were the last known group of people to use it within fifty years. Then again, if wearing white clothes is stil considered ok, then the word Revengeance is probably fine.

** Or not if they're aware that the word existed before and simply sounds cooler than Vengeance or Revenge.

* Gone Horribly Right: Many people who wanted to see Raiden be a total badass since MGS2 got what happened to him in MGS4. They wanted that trend to continue, and this game takes it the horrifying conclusion of Jack rediscovering his dark side. Yeah, he's pretty damn badass as a result, but he's a barely sane Sociopathic Hero now.
* Harsher in Hindsight: Remember how Raiden was accused and mocked by the AI Patriots for attempting to run away from his past during the whole Master AI speech before the fight with Solidus? Well, after the "Arm" video posted on the Rising site where it showed a brief snippit of Raiden's past in Liberia, its unlikely that any reasonable person would blame Raiden for wanting to run away from his past, and it also makes the Patriots less sensitive and a lot more sick than they already were for mocking him like that.

** As an additional kick in the balls (for Raiden), we find out just what kinds of demons he was restraining since we found about them in MGS2
* Hilarious in Hindsight: At the end of Metal Gear Raiden: Snake Eraser, Raiden accepts that he won't change the past, and Rosemary implies that he could go for Metal Gear Solid 5. Turns out, she was quite correct, in a manner of speaking.

** Though it's not the actual MGS5, and he's still not the main character of a canonically named MGS5. Then again, he is the star of his own game this time.
* Holy Shit Quotient: In the 2011 VGA trailer, Raiden blocks an attack by Metal Gear Ray before lifting it into the air and throwing it.
