- Luka's flashback during his mother's illness had this troper near tears, especially when the game makes you use your imagination.
- Alice's flashback in chapter two to when her mother died. She locks Alice in a cell and goes out to meet the heroes who have invaded her castle, voluntarily going to her death in an attempt to end the fighting. Then Alice breaks free and sees her mother's corpse...
- Alice's death in one of the Multiple Endings of chapter 2.
- To make things worse, Ilias tells Luka to open a nearby treasure chest, which she claims contains the hero's prize for defeating the Monster Lord. Inside is the ribbon that Luka bought Alice earlier in the chapter.
