The cleric of the fire elemental god will end up teaching Janine to trust again.
He does actually have the best interests of Lucille and Cyrus at heart, but proving this to Janine will be difficult. She will question his loyalties for quite some time before she realizes the cleric is a good person.
The cleric wants to protect Lucille and Cyrus because he needs them alive.
He doesn't care about them at all, but for his plans to come to fruition, they must survive.
