A lot of Japanese discriminate against Koreans even today while downplaying, or outright denying, the brutality of the Japanese conquest and occupation of Korea but despite all that, there was a surge of popularity of Korean entertainment in the mid 2000s [[Germans Love David Hasselhoff|(they certainly love BoA)]]. Modern Japanese by contrast are well aware of the abuses committed by the current ''South'' Korean government (of which the western world remains largely ignorant), wherein porn and playing politically incorrect video games carries a longer length of imprisonment than rape, all online activity is tracked by social security number (with China tier website blocking), and scholars whose only crime is daring to research and question Korean propaganda instead of accept it as fact are arrested.
