Patience, one of "The Library Lions" (the marble lion sculptures flanking the entrance to the Schwarzman branch of the New York Public Library). Patience sits to the south of the main steps. His companion, Fortitude, is not pictured here.

The Other Wiki tells us that "Patience (or forbearance) is the ability to endure difficult circumstances such as perseverance in the face of delay; tolerance of provocation without responding in annoyance/anger; or forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties."
