Yes, the author is English fandom's most vocal ShiroUra shipper, but before GoGo began, it was announced that Syrup and Rin would hook up, but nothing happened. Besides, pairing up Pittan with Chiara would have been too obvious, so the author chose a different and far more hilarious approach that would make people who support Syrup/Kurumi or Syrup/Rin happy.
