Pyre is a mystical sports game, focused on telling a story about outcasts in a strange world as they progress through religious sports rites. The third game made by Supergiant Games, it was released in 2017 for Microsoft Windows, Linux, Mac OS, and PlayStation 4.
Tropes used in Pyre (video game) include:
- The Big Guy: Jodariel.
- Boring but Practical: The ability of the player to read is probably taken for granted by most players.
- Cloudcuckoolander: The character whose name ends with “ae”.
- Dangerous Deserter: Hedwin, at least the perception of him.
- Do Well, But Not Perfect: Sometimes a player may see fit to throw a match so another team has a liberation. On a more meta scale, It is impossible to liberate everyone.
- Dystopia: The world is clearly not in good order, with most characters having faced injustice of some kind.
- Fictional Sport: The rites are a fictional religious sports league.
- High Fantasy: The setting.
- La Résistance: A major threat to the surface.
- Talking Animal: Rukey Greentail
- Wreathed in Flames: Via a strange non-lethal Self-Immolation no less. This is often part of the rites, and it is encouraged by the game to do so.
