Robot Wars (TV series)/Funny

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Oh, so many moments in Robot Wars history were as hilarious as they were chaotic!

  • In Heat D in Series 7, Lightning's captain, Laurie Calvert, attempted to intimidate his next opponent, Thor with this gem: "We're Lightning, just wait... for the THUNDAH!" Even funnier is that JP couldn't contain his laughter afterwards, simply because of how corny it sounded.
  • Basically, any time Diotior caught fire, which is about 80% of the fights it entered. Taken to the most extreme degree in Series 2 when it entered a one-off fight with Sgt. Bash just for spectacle.
  • Jonathan fell into another one of his trademark fits of laughter in Heat L's opening bout in Series 4 when Shunt slammed its axe through the head of Banshee, and decapitated it! Even better is that Shunt then proceeded to parade ahead the arena with Banshee's head!
  • The Refbot and Sergeant Bash getting into a fight during one episode of Extreme II, with the Refbot attempting to put out Bash's flamethrower with his fire extinguisher.
  • Major Tom driving into the pit it had just opened in its Fifth Wars fight against Kat 3. The kicker is that Major Tom slammed Kat 3 into the pit release tyre.
  • The team behind Robochicken were nothing short of stark raving bonkers. The robot itself looked ridiculous (not a bad thing), and the team was making chicken noises when Julia Reed introduced them before their debut bout in Series 4. Apparently, it was their first time in London. That's not even going into the names they gave the robot's arsenal of weapons like "Fowl Flipping Device", "Poultry Powered Pecker", or "Rooster Rotovator"!
  • Starting from Extreme Series 1, robots' stat boards contained strengths and weaknesses. Some teams listed some really bizarre stuff, such as:
    • Robochicken Evo (S5): Weaknesses: "Won't Be Taken Seriously"
    • Barb-R-Ous II took it all the way, listing "Made of Plastic" as its strength AND weakness.
    • Kan-Opener (S7): Weaknesses: "Never Been Past Round 1"
    • Spawn Again (S7): Weaknesses: "None, Hopefully"
    • Sir Chromalot (S6): Weaknesses: "Jonathan Pearce"
  • Sir Killalot catching fire after attempting to push Robopig over the flame pit in the Third Wars.
  • Rottweiler is Series 2 only job to do in its Trial run: remain stationary to survive elimination. (For context, it had to beat -2.1m to stay in). The fact that it didn't even accomplish THAT is something to bare witness to!
  • Shunt smashing Major Toms plastic bubblegum-dispenser head with its axe in the Fourth Wars.
  • It's easy to miss, but in Mace 2's semifinal match with Big Brother in Series 3, the former got its lifter caught in the floor flipper, which was accompanied by a cartoonish "Boing!" sound effect for no real reason.
  • A robot called Night Rider entered the New Blood Championship with a disembowelling spike that proved to be ineffective; but when the House Robots moved in for the kill, Sir Killalot bent the spike to a 90 degree angle and placed on the Drop Zone. Then, a TV monitor came down and was impaled on the upturned spike!
  • Just the fact that it took the collective efforts of Shunt, Sgt. Bash, and Sir Killalot to throw the fallen Bigger Brother into the pit in its 2nd round defeat against Bulldog Breed 2 in Series 4.
  • The team behind Vortex Inducer in the second Dutch series were cheering Sir Killalot on... as he chopped their robot clean in two and dumped it out the arena!
  • Razer losing to the laughable Aggrobot in the Third Wars, not because Aggrobot was a superior robot, but because the back of Razers weapon dug into the floor and left it unable to move.
  • Destruct-A-Bubble debuted in the Sumo Basho side event of Series 4 before its heat aired. The sheer dopiness of the robot caused JP to burst out laughing at the mere sight of it before "Activate!" was called.
  • Banshee's Pinball Warrior run was hilarious simply because of how sluggish the robot was. The robot was a work of art, but it was so slow that it appeared almost casual in hitting key targets.
  • The fight between Ewe 2 and Tetanus Booster in Heat E of Series 7 was a field day for Jonathan Pearce; the fight itself was so boring that Jonathan simply starting making all kinds of U2 related jokes by referencing their songs and albums.
  • The fight between Razer and Widow's Revenge in the 5th Wars was spectacular for the sheer hilarity of it; the latter entered as the other halves of the Razer boys, and everyone (including the Razer team themselves) was in on the joke, the result was an absolute riot!
  • Ant Pritchard's reaction to his robot, Behemoth, falling in the pit in the Series 10 Grand Final after one of Nuts 2's minibots hit the tyre and dropped the pit right as Behemoth crossed it. His reaction was one of just pure bewilderment.
  • Watching the reigning champions Carbide get chased around the arena by one of Nuts 2's minibots is rather humorous considering the latter is only a factor of its size.
  • During Hypnodisc's first fight, against Robogeddon, when the former has completely ripped the latter's armour off and wrecked the wheels, two of the Robogeddon team members are seen talking to each other:

Jonathan Pearce: What's he saying? "There's a way back into this for us"? I don't think so!

  • Following Hypnodisc's similarly one-sided Series 4 fight against Splinter:

Craig Charles: Very close fight, we'll have to go to the judges on that one. Only joking!

  • During the Series 4 fight between Dominator 2 and 101 (Dominator 2 is armed with a large axe and spends the fight sticking numerous holes in 101):

Jonathan Pearce: Do not try this at home, children, with a toothpick on your brother's favourite model car. Wait until Christmas Day and do it then!
