- Designated Hero: We're supposed to root for player character Valdo, even though he's an admitted forger and something of a con man. In fact, those very skills are required to solve the mystery.
- Evil Is Sexy: Valdo even notes in his journal that although he can't trust her, he finds it hard to be properly angry with Babou because "she's so ravishing!"
- Good Bad Bugs: One of these enables you to get past the most infuriating puzzle (making a copy of the Mona Lisa) without actually solving it. Most online walkthroughs for the game make a note of it.
- Ho Yay: Inferred (and historically accurate). Salai, da Vinci's lover who used to stay in Valdo's room, was male.
